Dive Training / Advanced Open Water

The advanced course is the next level of training after finishing an open water course. It consists of 5 training dives. Two of those dives are mandatory - a deep dive and a navigation dive.

You can choose from a few options for the other 3 dives, for example underwater photography, night diving, drift diving, search and recovery, multi-level diving or underwater naturalist. Those choices depend mostly on the sea conditions at the time. For example, of course a drift dive is not possible if there is no current !

This course is about experiencing other types of diving. You read the various chapters in a book and discuss the dives with your instructor before making them. There are no written exams, just some knowledge reviews.

Combination with extended dive cruise
Advanced training is offered with almost every extended trip out of Cairns. The dive school vessels Scubapro and Ocean Quest offer the PADI advanced course. You can complete this course also if you are taking a cruise on Spirit of Freedom, Spoilsport, or Taka. It might be worthwile considering to take the PADI advanced courses, it is a nice option while on aliveaboard to continue with your dive education.
