Beqa Lagoon Resort
Sensational diving
on a paradise island !
Beqa
Island Resort offers guests the chance to dive and enjoy Fijian
hospitality in comfort and style. No additional flights are needed
within Fiji!
Beqa
Island
Beqa
(pronounced Benga) Island lies in Beqa Lagoon, located
just 8 km south off the main island of Viti Levu. From Nadi International
Airport it's a scenic 2.5 hour drive followed by a 30 minute boat
ride to the island
Surrounded
by a large barrier reef, one of the most striking features of Beqa
Island is its seclusion. There are no roads, no towns and only a
few isolated villages scattered around the perimeter. Steep rainforest
covered mountains shelter the west coast from wind and waves, and
most of the island's beaches are found there.
The
Resort
Beqa Island Resort is a remote island paradise far away from the
the big resorts and the crowds on the main island. The beautiful
Balinese-style bures and public meeting places are spread out amongst
the lush vegetation and water gardens.
During the day, guests can relax around the lovely infinity pool
or unwind with a soothing aromatic massage.
Although
the resort grounds are neatly maintained the flora & fauna of
the island is never far away as colourful island critters still
have free range of the island!
At night crabs very often march across the lawn to the beach.
Just behind the resort the land slopes gently upward into a tropical
forest. Further into the forest there's a fresh water stream descending
from a waterfall just about a mile from the resort. Here the thick
jungle vegetation occasionally gives way to small fields of sweet
potatoes, pineapples and taro root, but all in all, the land remains
pristine. Tropical flowers bloom everywhere, and the tables at the
resort are always filled with fresh cuttings.
If
you hike a short way up the hillside, you'll find yourself at the
base of an impressive waterfall. After cooling off for a while in
the pool you can hike further up the path and the top of the trail
offers great sunset views over the entire lagoon. With a little
more time & effort it is possible hike to the top of the mountain
to enjoy stunning views over the entire island.
Diving
Beqa Lagoon is surrounded by over 190 miles of spectacular coral
reef. Within the lagoon, the water is clear and warm, visibility
is typically over 100 feet, currents are mild, and the water temperature
stays a fairly constant 80 F (26C). Many of the most spectacular
dive spots are only a few minutes from shore, and if you stayed
long enough, you could explore over 100 different reefs! The dive
masters at Beqa Lagoon have been diving in these waters since they
were children and are some of the most consciencious people you
will ever meet. They know every reef and coral head, and if you
stay close they will show you some of the most intriguing creatures
around - Blue Ribbon Eels, Clown Triggers, Lion Fish, Leaf Scorpions,
Reef Sharks and millions of colorful Anthias and Fusiliers all inhabit
these waters.
Twice
a week, it is possible to join the word-famous Beqa Shark feeds
directly from Beqa Lagoon Resort. One of the resort's dive boats
will take you and your dive guides to a special site inside the
lagoon where up to ten bull sharks, silver tips, grey nurse and
the occasional tiger shark meet to be hand-fed by dive masters from
Aquatrek or Beqa Adventure Divers. These sharks have been studied
for many years; the larger ones are about 9ft/3mtrs long, and it
is an awesome experience to see them circling only metres away.
These dives need to be booked in additional to the regular accommodation/dive
packages.
Surfing
Surf the Fiji Pipeline! Voted one of the best two waves
in Fiji. Powerful, fast developing world class
left with prevailing offshore winds, Frigate Passage (also known
as Fiji Pipeline) is located on the southwestern barrier reef of
the island of Beqa, just a short distance from Beqa Lagoon Resort.
Frigate Passage offers the ideal conditions that naturally generate
these kind of world class waves. Come surf the Fiji Pipeline and
live the island way without the crowds, stress, and traffic of the
mainland.

as clown fish, lion fish, lobsters, live corals and lots of other
tropical creatures. Just grab a mask & snorkel, step out from
the beach and you're away. A
secluded island picnic is another way to spend your time
a resort boat can be arranged to take you to a nearby deserted island
where you can snorkel and sunbathe.

islands and beautiful beaches of Beqa Island.

the locals!
